Which local businesses get websites built first, and which ones actually go live

The 3,194 websites built on Pindrop by trade: barbers and salons lead, restaurants get built often but go live least, and home services publish at the highest rate.

Every site built on Pindrop is for a specific business with a specific trade, so we can see which kinds of businesses people build for, and which of those sites end up published. Here is the picture from the 3,194 sites built by September 15, 2026.

What gets built

Sites built, by trade

The twelve most common trades among sites built on Pindrop. 262 sites were custom builds with no trade recorded and are left out.

Barbers, beauty salons, hair salons, nail salons and spas together account for 455 sites, one in seven of everything built. Auto repair is next at 81, then restaurants at 71 and contractors at 50. After the top twelve come bars, pet groomers, landscapers, florists, auto detailers, dentists, gyms and roofers, each with 25 to 35 sites.

That matches the map. In our sample of U.S. businesses, 37% of beauty salons and 42% of restaurants have no website, against about 15% of businesses overall. Builders go where the gap is, and they can see it: the salon with 200 reviews and no website is the first gold pin on any street.

What goes live

Across all 3,194 sites, 24% are live. By trade, the spread is wide:

Sites live on their own address as a share of sites built, for trades with at least 25 sites.

Home services publish best. Landscapers, contractors and plumbers all sit at 29% to 34%. They need a site that says what they do, where they work and how to call, and a build straight from the map already has that.

Salons are close behind at 29% to 30%, with barbers a little lower at 24%. Restaurants are the outlier at 15%. They get built often, because so many of them have no site, but a restaurant site needs a menu and its own photos before the owner will put their name on it, and that is extra work after the build. We added menu import from a link, a paste or a photo of the menu in September to close that gap; it is too early to see it in these numbers.

What it means if you build websites

  • Start with the trades that both need a site and say yes: salons, barbers, landscapers, plumbers, contractors and auto shops.
  • For a restaurant, bring the menu. A build with the real menu and the owner's photos is a different conversation from a build without them.
  • The trades with the most sites are not always the ones with the best odds. Barbers are the most built for and publish at 24%; landscapers are built for a fifth as often and publish at 34%.

How we counted

  • Every site built on Pindrop by September 15, 2026, grouped by the trade recorded for the business. 262 custom builds with no trade are left out of the trade figures but included in the total.
  • Live means published at its own address on the day of the count. Live shares are only shown for trades with at least 25 sites.
  • Coffee shops and cafes are recorded as separate trades in the map data and are kept separate here.
