What percentage of restaurants have no website? 18% in big U.S. cities, 29% in El Paso

We counted 303,402 restaurants in 50 U.S. cities: 54,755 have no website on record. Which cities have the most, why the number depends on how you count, and why they are harder to sell to than they look.

About 18% of restaurants in large U.S. cities have no website on record. That is 54,755 of the 303,402 restaurants on Pindrop's map in the 50 cities we counted on September 26, 2026, more than any other kind of business by count.

At the other end, San Francisco (11%), Washington (12%), Cincinnati and Albuquerque (13%) are where restaurants are most likely to have a site already. By count, New York leads with 8,519 restaurants without a website, then Los Angeles (3,212), Philadelphia (2,060), Houston (1,853) and Miami (1,770). City by city numbers are in the report.

Why you have seen 40% elsewhere

In an earlier sample of the whole map, 43% of businesses listed simply as "restaurant" had no website. The 18% above counts every restaurant category (pizza, Mexican, Thai, sushi and so on), and the more specific listings are more likely to be established places with a site. Both are true; they are counting different things. If someone quotes you one number for "restaurants", ask which.

Why restaurants are harder to sell to than the numbers suggest

Restaurants are the biggest pool of businesses without a website, and one of the hardest to close. On Pindrop, 25% of sites built for restaurants get published and 8% get sent to the owner, the lowest of any trade (nail salons are 40% and 25%). Owners are hard to reach during service, menus change, and many already take orders through Google and delivery apps. More in the best businesses to sell websites to.

  • Go between 2 and 4 in the afternoon, after lunch and before dinner prep.
  • Lead with the menu and hours, the two things customers look up most. A site with their real menu on it is the pitch.
  • Don't compete with delivery apps. Pitch the site as the place their regulars check hours, not a replacement for ordering.

How we counted

  • Every business on Pindrop's map with a restaurant category (any category containing "restaurant") within about 12 miles of the center of 50 U.S. cities, September 26, 2026. Cities with fewer than 60 restaurants are left out of the city table.
  • "No website" means none on record in the map data; a Facebook page does not count.
  • Publish and send rates: 393 sites built for restaurants on Pindrop, July 10 to September 26, 2026.
